System for Ultrasound Treatment of Aquatic Organisms

Exotic plant invasion has caused severe environmental and economic damage. Free-floating plants such as water chestnut (Trapa natans L.), water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes Solms), water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes L.), European forg's-bit (Hydrocharis morsus-ranae L.), giant salvinia (Salvinia Molesta D.S. Mitchell) and common salvinia (Salvinia minima), invaded aquatic habitats, outcompeted native plants and cause detrimental impacts. Ultrasound is a soundwave whose frequency is above the audible frequency range for humans. Ultrasound has been proven to damage aquatic plants effectively qithout causing contamination to its surrounding environment. Ultrasound applicaiton is an effective, safe and environmentally-friendly approach for invasive plant management in aquatic ecosystems.
