Deep-penetrating Lidocaine Topical Gel
A new formulation of deep-penetrating lidocaine circumvents the need for painful injections.
Lidocaine is a local anesthetic commonly used prior to facial medical and cosmetic procedures, as well as before dental surgery. While lidocaine is very quick and effective at numbing the treatment area to avoid pain during the procedure, the injection of the drug itself is very painful, and patients often complain that the injections are the worst part of the procedures. The current topical formulations do not allow for sufficient penetration of lidocaine to adequately numb target tissues.
A new topical lidocaine formulation was developed by encapsulating the drug into flexible liposomes. The novel formulation demonstrates substantially higher levels of penetration and delivery of lidocaine to the target area when compared to standard and liposomal topical lidocaine products currently on the market
